Before 1987, there was not a required way for casinos in Nevada to destroy their old & discontinued poker chips & slot tokens. These gaming establishments came up with creative ways to make sure not a single person would be able to get ahold of their "dead chips & tokens." a way to dispose of their old poker chips & slot tokens was to hide them in the concrete mix of the foundations of hotel expansions & properties that were newly built on the Las Vegas strip.
Pictured in this listing, is an authentic & rare slab of concrete from the frontier hotel in las vegas. This artifact was discovered on accident in the rubble when the frontier was imploded in 2007. Due to regulation 12, a law passed in 1987 in Nevada, casinos were no longer able to discard their old in house currency.
This collage features one of these actual concrete slabs taken from the rubble of the Frontier hotel. It features 2 authentic Pioneer hotel (Laughlin Nevada) Slot tokens displayed in the shadowbox framing. Slab is approximately 3" x 3" x 4" and both tokens are directly connected in the slab. This is an artifact of las vegas history. These pioneer casino tokens (Laughlin, Nevada) Were found in the frontier hotel in las vegas because Margaret Elardi who owned both the frontier & pioneer hotels wanted to make sure no one got their hands on her old discontinued pioneer chips. Mrs. Elardi secretly had these token placed into the new expansion of the frontier hotel to make sure no one could get their hands on the pioneer tokens and attempt to cash them in at the pioneer casino cashier cage. These concrete slabs are extremely rare and very difficult to find as collectors keep them and do not resell them once they are in their collections. These were found during the demolitions of the older hotels, the most recent one that went down that they believed had more in it was the riviera. Almost all these hotels listed with the cards have been demolished and rebuilt on so further proof these are becoming non-existent.
This piece includes 20 authentic used playing cards from some of the most iconic casinos Las Vegas has ever had. Of the 20 playing cards on this piece, 17 of them are no longer around, own a real piece of vegas history!!!
