Carole Lombard Signed Album Page!! THIS COULD BE ONE OF IF NOT HER RAREST SIGNATURE IN EXISTENCE!! She signed this album page "Carole Lombard Gable" as she was the first wife of Hollywood Icon Clark Gable!! She did not sign "Gable" as part of her last name in her signatures as she never took Clark Gable's last name and remained "Carole Lombard" after their marriage. What was tragic about their marriage was that she died in a plane accident at the very young age of 33 years old on January 16, 1942 in Las Vegas with her mother and her publicist. There are many stories online about the accident and how big of a loss it was for Hollywood as well as how it was such a fluke accident. When she died, she was at the height of her career in Hollywood and was the highest paid actresses in Hollywood in the late 1930s. She was only married to Clark Gable for 3 years so there was a very very short time for this to have been signed. This autograph came from an autograph album where all the signatures in the book were dated 1939 by other celebrities so we assume this was the year it was autographed which would place this at over 80 years old!! The Album page measures approximately 5" x 6". On the backside of the album page is a signature of Bob Hope which was pasted to the back. This is common with album pages as people would use every inch of the autograph book for signatures. Back in the day people weren't collecting signatures for value but collecting sentimentally for the value of meeting the celebrities and showing proof of it!
For those that don't already know, she wasn't an easy autograph to obtain in general and there are not a huge amount of her signatures available in the marketplace!! We did some research online through historical sales data from major auction houses, eBay and just Google searching and were not able to come up with any other signature of hers that entered the market or sold at any point that included the "Gable" last name in her autograph!!! Please do your research and you will see if by chance you find one, please send us the listing as we are as interested as you are!!! The item has been authenticated by James Spence Authentication, one of the top most reputable authenticators in the memorabilia business.
