STEP 1: EVALUATE WHAT YOU HAVE.
The very first thing to look at is exactly what you have! Many times people looking to sell autographed memorabilia have the items passed down from a family member or friend who has gifted them these items for whatever reason. See if you can get more information about exactly what your item is from the person who gave it to you. If you are unable to get information from the proposal recipient, then do some research! Use the internet to help you out.
To start, let's see if there are any markings or holograms on your items that could give you some more information. Look for any authentication information stickered on your item. On photos or LPs, they are usually on the bottom left or right corners on the front or back of the photo or LP. They will usually include the name of the company on the holograms. If you find any company names on these holograms or stickers, type in their company name in google and go to their website. You will want to go on their website and look up and see if they have any sort of Authenticity Verification section. Usually, in these sections, if there is a set of numbers or letters that seem to look like a code number on your holograms or stickers on your item, you will want to input those numbers into their section on their website which will usually tell you who signed your item or when the item was signed. This is a good first step to help figure out what your item is. It will usually include other information about the item such as if it is limited edition or if it has an inscription. See below in Step 2 to evaluate this information. If you are still having problems figuring out who signed your item or what exactly you have, make sure to contact Inscriptagraphs. They can assist you with finding out what your item is and even potentially buy your item(s) from you!
STEP 2: IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT.
If you have figured out who signed your item, now it's time to figure out if there are two bigger additional components on your item that could help increase its value. Inscriptions are statistics, sayings or expressions by an athlete that they write on an item in addition to their signature. For example, if you have a Harrison Ford Signed Star Wars Movie Poster and he also added above or below his signature "Han Solo" or a signed Bon Jovi Photo and he wrote "Livin' On A Prayer" then this is called an inscription. These inscriptions typically add additional value to the signature of around 20% - 30% because your item is not just an autograph, it is an autograph with a little extra ink that makes this item a little more unique. Because of this, collectors put a higher value to the autograph and your item is worth more. Keep this in mind when going to sell your item to an individual, business, pawn shop, collector, friend or whomever.
Another part of an item that may increase the value when you go to sell your autograph is an item that is Limited Edition. Limited Edition items are more appealing to collectors because it means there are only so many items out there of this one particular item and it is not a generally overflooded item in the marketplace. This applies if your item is generally limited out of 250 or less. Anything above this 250 mark may be limited edition by nature, but above that makes your item more common and the item was numbered in a limited edition run. If you have an item that is limited edition, generally out of 250 or less, then your item is more appealing to collectors (i.e. businesses, pawn shops, friends or whomever). They will typically recognize this and value your item a little higher depending on what the limited edition run is of the item.
STEP 3: MARKET RESEARCH.
This is very important! Go online and see if you can find your item(s) on e-commerce websites such as eBay, Amazon, Google shopping or more! See if you can see if there are any current items for sale or items that have already sold. Just keep in mind when you are online and people have a listing for sale, this is an asking price not what the item is worth. Many times people overvalue their items significantly because they themselves really don't know what the item is worth. At the end of the day, AN ITEM IS WORTH WHAT SOMEONE IS WILLING TO PAY FOR IT!
STEP 4: TIME TO SELL.
Now that you have read the first 3 steps, it is time to sell your item!
